This Is About Your Pension – Please Read
The OMERS pension you pay into every paycheck is at risk and most of us don’t realize just how serious this situation is. Fortunately, the deadline was just extended by two weeks!
The Ford government has ordered a full review of the OMERS plan. And let’s be real: when Conservatives start “reviewing” public sector pensions, it’s usually bad news for workers like us.
If you’re anything like most of your fellow union members, OMERS is one of the biggest reasons you’ve stayed in municipal work. It’s our future. It’s how we retire with dignity. And it’s one of the only real benefits we’ve had to fall back on.
Right now, our pension is run through a joint governance structure. That means workers get to appoint representatives to the board. That’s one of the few ways we get a say in how our retirement savings are managed.
But this review could change that. We could lose that shared control. We could see more decisions made behind closed doors — or worse, changes that hurt us down the road.
And here’s the kicker; we’re not just trying to protect what we have; we’re also trying to fix what’s broken. Right now, the board members we appoint can’t actually share much with us, or take direction from us, because of confidentiality rules. We want that to change too — and we’re teaming up with other unions to make sure it does.
But to make it happen, we need to show massive support from OMERS members. Our goal is 60,000 signatures on a joint submission and we need your help!
That’s why I’m asking you to take 3 minutes and sign the submission today and share with your members:

It may not seem like much, but your name — along with tens of thousands of others — could help protect your pension for decades to come.
We can’t afford to sit this one out. Please sign and share today.
In solidarity,
OMERS Submission Committee
